FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (MBC Institute)

Male Breast Cancer Institute:
Advancing Research, Education and Global Scientific Awareness Since 2024

April, 2026 — The Male Breast Cancer Institute (MBCI), established by cancer advocate Cheri Ambrose (MBC Gobal Alliance) and health sciences directors (Dr. Lennard Goetze, Dr. Leslie Valle-Montoya & Dr. Noelle Cutter). It is driven to advance the mission to strengthen academic research, professional education, scientific publishing and international collaboration surrounding one of the most underrepresented populations in breast cancer research: MEN.

Since August of 2024, the institute was created to address longstanding deficiencies in male-specific cancer information, the Institute serves as an institutional framework for translating scientific findings into accessible educational resources, expanding global communications and developing research initiatives that support earlier diagnosis, improved treatment and survivorship. https://mbcglobalinstitute.org/

Addressing a Critical Gap in Cancer Research

Although breast cancer is predominantly diagnosed in women, thousands of men worldwide confront the disease each year. In the United States alone, the American Cancer Society estimates approximately 2,670 new invasive male breast cancer cases and 530 deaths in 2026.

Despite these numbers, male breast cancer continues to face significant challenges involving public recognition, clinical trial representation, population-specific data, diagnostic awareness and long-term survivorship resources.

"The challenge is not simply that male breast cancer is uncommon. It is that the scientific and educational infrastructure surrounding this disease has historically been insufficient," said Dr. Lennard Goetze, co-founder of the Institute. "Our objective is to connect research, clinical knowledge, education and global communications in ways that produce meaningful progress for patients and the professionals who serve them."

Expanding Research and Educational Programs

The Institute's programmatic priorities include RehabScan, an initiative examining rehabilitation and functional recovery; survivorship and quality-of-life research; GET CHECKED NOW!, a public awareness and early-recognition campaign; and educational activities associated with the Annual Male Breast Cancer Medical Summit.

Additional priorities include cancer genetics, recurrence-risk research, clinical treatment developments, underserved populations and the publication of expert commentary, interviews and educational reports through international communications platforms. A major institutional undertaking is the proposed MBCI Global Epidemiology, Data & Research Division, dedicated to collecting, cataloging and analyzing existing worldwide male breast cancer data.

Its flagship publication, The Global State of Male Breast Cancer: An Annual Epidemiological and Research Intelligence Report, is intended to examine incidence, mortality, geographic disparities, genetics, clinical trials, treatment outcomes and gaps in national reporting.

Building Upon an International Advocacy Legacy

The Institute's development is closely aligned with the Male Breast Cancer Global Alliance (MBCGA), whose international advocacy network, founded through the pioneering efforts of Cheri Ambrose, has connected more than 800 men affected by breast cancer worldwide.

The Alliance's accomplishments in survivor engagement, medical education, professional partnerships, webinars, awareness campaigns and international summits provide an established foundation for the Institute's expanding scientific and educational agenda.

Through this relationship, the Institute seeks to strengthen the connection between patient advocacy and academic investigation, ensuring that the experiences of male breast cancer survivors contribute to research priorities and educational development.

An Invitation to the Global Research Community

The Institute welcomes collaboration with universities, medical centers, cancer registries, researchers, clinicians, professional associations, survivor organizations and philanthropic supporters interested in advancing male breast cancer science and education.

"Our responsibility extends beyond raising awareness," Goetze added. "We must identify what is known, document what remains unknown and develop the partnerships necessary to close those gaps. Every man diagnosed with breast cancer deserves to be represented in the scientific conversation."

Established in 2023, the Male Breast Cancer Institute continues to build upon that commitment, working toward a future in which male breast cancer receives greater research attention, stronger educational representation and more equitable clinical consideration.
